Fair
Trade Hits the Mall!
Well
we've gone and opened up a bona fide retail location. Yes it's true! Are
you ready for this - we now have our own retail kiosk located in the Stamford
Town Center Mall in Stamford CT. Come on by for a visit and see our line
of hand made, fair trade and earth friendly products live and in person.
We are located in front of Radio Shack and just down the hall from Barnes
and Noble. So far, we are loving it! It's great to bring these wonderful
products and the whole concept of fair trade right into a rather unlikely
place. It's been great hearing the enthusiastic comments from shoppers,
who are "so glad to see something like this" in a mall. So if
you are in town, stop on by, and spread the word. Here's the info:

Make
a Purchase and We’ll Plant a Tree!
Every
time you purchase a product from us, we’ll make a contribution to
Trees for the
Future - TFTF – covering the cost to plant a tree somewhere
in the developing world.
TFTF
is an agroforestry resource center helping people in developing countries
to
improve their lives through the introduction of environmentally sustainable
land
management projects focused on beneficial tree planting. Since 1988, TFTF
has helped
communities in Central America, Africa, and Asia by planting nearly 50 million
trees.
TFTF
works in areas that used to be covered with lush rainforest or other forest
cover.
After years of deforestation, people in these areas face severe problems
of draught,
erosion and famine. They can maintain their farms with fertilizer, but fertilizer
raises
salt and acid levels and the soil eventually becomes too burned out to produce
crops.
TFTF
creates forest gardens, integrating various species of multi-purpose trees.
These
trees are able to survive in harsh environments and, after some time, the
soil is
restored to organic levels that permit sustainable farming.
Trees
help the people in many ways. Aside from the environmental benefits, some
trees produce fruits and nuts and others can be used for fuel. Some species
attract
honey bees, which can generate income for the people. And TFTF works with
the
jatropha tree, which is a good source of biofuels.
Planting
trees leads to sustainable development and sustainable livelihoods. That’s
why TFTF plants trees, and that’s why we’re proud to support
them.

Is Living
Off The Grid Right for You? (Article from TreeHugger.com)
Like
many things in the greater green sphere, living off the grid -- that is,
without reliance on public utilities for things like electricity and water
-- has jumped into national prominence over the past few years; if Daryl
Hannah is doing it, we should all be aware of it. There's an awful lot to
like about living off-grid, and it's a little different for everybody, but
in many cases it requires a few lifestyle modifications and a different
day-to-day routine. So, how do you know if you should live off the grid?

The
Clean Energy Scam (Time Magazine Article Thurs.
Mar.27th)
From
his Cessna a mile above the southern Amazon, John Carter looks down on the
destruction of the world's greatest ecological jewel. He watches men converting
rain forest into cattle pastures and soybean fields with bulldozers and
chains. He sees fires wiping out such gigantic swaths of jungle that scientists
now debate the "savannization" of the Amazon. More...

Simplifying
Complex Tasks (Article from The Simplicity Site)
Sometimes
a task or project seems so complex, so daunting, that we are paralyzed into
inaction when we contemplate how difficult we think it will be to handle
this task. This can ruin our ability to not only handle, but certainly to
enjoy substantial projects and challenging but necessary tasks. So how do
you keep from going crazy when you have a really big job on your hands?
The answer is, of course, simple. More...
